I have been teaching students of all ages and levels since 1990, many of whom have placed in regional competitions, festivals, summer music programs, and have continued music study on the college level. Others have retained a life-long interest in music, and have developed an appreciation and understanding of the complexities of fine music.
My teaching is geared to the specific needs and interests of each student.
I combine elements of traditional training, with a more innovative and holistic approach, integrating the body as a whole in piano playing.
This process fosters a healthy technique, avoids injury and strain, and most importantly, yields the best results musically. Several students have sought my advice regarding this approach, and have obtained significant results.
I believe that the beginning stages of piano study are crucial in introducing the student to a healthy and natural approach to piano playing, and in developing an appreciation for music in youngsters.

"Dr. Alfano, through a detailed analysis of my musical and pianistic skills, and keeping in mind my career goals devised a concise and pedagogically sound plan that enabled me to do years of work in a matter of months. His patience and ability to build a great rapport with his students of all ages and levels makes his studio a perpetually conducive learning environment."

"Passionate and patient would best describe Dr. Donald Alfano's piano teaching style. I am elated to witness my children thrive under his tuteleage. His uniqueness comes from his mastery in pushing each child beyond their comfortable confines while providing timely words of praise, encouraging smiles and assuring feedback on their progress. I look forward to each interaction with "Mr. Donald" because I know both my young children will continue to mature and excel under his expertise and guidance."
—Jennifer G, Hamden, CT Parent of students ages 6 & 7
"Our son, Zak , studied with Donald from seventh grade through his senior year in high school after having studied with another teacher for many years. As Donald's student, his piano playing and love of music soared . He performed often and entered and won many competitions. He practiced diligently. He never missed a lesson. Our entire family became very close to Donald and remain so to this day. Zak still plays and has fond memories of his many years as Donald's student . I cannot recommend a more professional and fun teacher."
